Halloween Candy

It is Halloween so the little ones get very excited for the candy and treats they will receive.

While we certainly don’t condone eating candy we know today it is going to happen!

Thus in the spirit of the holiday we went ahead and looked at common candies kids will receive and we broke them down to acceptable (as mentioned before we don’t condone eating candy) and those candies to really avoid all together!

Here is Part 1 of our list:

Acceptable: Hershey’s Miniatures: Special Dark

Avoid: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups Miniatures
Serving Size: 5 pieces
220 calories; 13g fat; 5g saturated fat; 130mg sodium; 26g carbs; 23g sugar; 4g protein

Chocolate that contains nuts may contain a variety of nutrients and healthy fats that may displace some of the total chocolate, sugar, etc.

Acceptable: Dove Silky Smooth Almond Milk Chocolate Bar

Avoid: Twix Caramel Cookie Bars

White chocolate is THE WORST option POSSIBLE! It actually doesn’t actually contain any cocoa — only cocoa butter it’s packed with sugar and added fat from the extra milk products used.

If you like chocolate on everything then choose raisins over pretzels or marshmallows. Raisins contain antioxidants and provide extra fiber that you won’t get from chocolate by itself.

The unhealthiest candy choices are loaded with sugar, fat, and artery-clogging saturated fat.

Musketeers is a good alternative, as it is significantly lower in calories and fat.

Caramels have a high percentage of saturated fat, a better option is a low-calorie candy.

Avoid the big bars, because even if you tell yourself that you’re only going to eat half as you will eat all of it. Be aware that some small treats can add up fast. Mini-size candy bars that are low in calories and fat so practice moderation.
